Details about getting to the Centre
On Travel Arrangements
Please make all of your travel arrangements to and from the Dhamma Sukha Vipassana Meditation Center before arriving for your course, as you will not have access to your cell phone from the time the course begins until after the course is completed. Please refer to the specific arrival and departure times in the course information section in making your flight, ground, and other transportation plans to the center. Ensure that your departure time from the Dhamma Sukha Center is after 7:30 AM CST on the final day, as this will allow adequate time for the closing of the course. Students should make appropriate travel plans, allowing sufficient time for travel to and from nearby cities/airports. If you have any difficulty, please do not hesitate to contact us at [email protected]. In addition, please inform the Registrar of any last-minute changes in your travel (e.g., missed or delayed flight) at [email protected] or you may call (979) 357-2819.
Transportation Options
Any of a variety of means of transportation are available to get you to the center, including ridesharing, personal cars, rental cars, taxi services (Uber/Lyft), and flights to airports of the nearby cities of Austin (AUS) and Houston (two sizeable airports, IAH and HOU). Please take note that the Dhamma Sukha Vipassana Meditation Center is rurally located and has no affiliation with any travel services and the best option should be explored for each individual’s own particular needs and circumstances. Be informed that there are no readily useful bus, train, or shuttle services to the rural location of the center.
Notes:
• Please drive 20 miles/hour or lower on the gravel road near the center.
• To reduce driving length on gravel roads, please come to the Dhamma Sukha Vipassana Meditation Center via Shunk a Rd. You may want to add Shunka Rd as a stop on your map before your final destination, i.e. the center.
Ridesharing
If you need or can offer a ride to and/or from the center, please follow the ride share board instructions in your acceptance e-mail. This volunteer-run board may help you find a ride to the center with other students. Please consider offering rides if you have extra space in your vehicle because sometimes people cannot attend the course simply because they do not have a mean of transportation. Rideshare may also be useful in combination with air travel to/from Austin or Houston.
Travel By Car
Dhamma Sukha has a parking lot with ample space for your vehicle to park for the duration of the course.
Please note that the GPS systems do not always give the correct directions. Therefore, please compare any GPS directions with the directions provided by the website. We recommend the use of Google Maps over other navigation systems because the other navigation systems have provided mistakes in directions under the rural location of the center while coming from Houston.
